I found myself yesterday telling a fellow employee to download Pokemon Go and play with it. Yes. The one game that it may be ok to play with on the clock. Why? Because one of the hottest trends in downloadable apps can increase the foot traffic at your business location.
If you see references to the following characters in the media or on social media – Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Ash, Brock, Misty, May, etc or wonder why crowds are gathering all over town and staring at their cell phones – chock it up to Pokemon Go.
Pokemon, for those that do not know, was created in 1995. The basic premise of the original game is you hunt and battle these creatures called Pokemon. Pokemon is short for Pocket Monsters. Pokemon Go is sort of like a treasure hunt with a digital, modern day twist. Or if you have heard of Geocaching– it’s very similar to Geocaching but instead of finding physical geocaches you are hunting and battling digital creatures.
A big part of the game is to reach what are called PokéStops. The PokeStops have been pre-determined based on locations being significant landmarks, popular restaurants, theatres etc. If you have a PokeStop near by you can drop what is known as a lure. A lure lasts for 30 minutes and attracts the Pokemon creatures which in turn attract Trainers (players). Get your sandwich board ready announcing you are a PokeStop and set your lure. Take a picture of your sandwich board and announce it on your social media channels. Offer a deal and or discount to Trainers. Ask them to take a picture of the Pokemon creature they have hunted at your location and post it.
If you have no clue how to go about setting up a lure or what you can do to benefit from Pokemon Go look into this startup company called Lure Deals, created by Houston-based digital marketing agency TKM Labs. They recruit Trainers (Pokemon Go players) to become part of their program. Once the player is registered they receive assignments on where to get to work dropping lures. The player that drops the lure first wins a bounty (gets paid). You, the business owner, sign up, set a deal and choose what time you want to run the deal. Lure Deals announces it, near by Pokemon Go players get alerted to it and they head to your business.
**As of today Lure Deals is only available in the US**
How often does something fun and different in regards to marketing come along? Be a part of the greatest app download success in history (they have had no paid promotion). Download the app, have some fun and increase the foot traffic to your business today.
